2 Goat Neck Road
Columbia, NC 27925

Description

The wilderness of Goat Neck could be considered no man's land from a wildlife perspective. At any given time, you could traipse across a 600 lb boar bear with his only fear being that he is too many steps away from making it to his next meal before dark. The Whitetail bucks don't grow as wide as their neighboring Virginia whitetail but they do grow much taller tines, making it easier to navigate the dense swamps of eastern Tyrrell County. Make no mistake, with a little bit of work, you could even pull a few Black Ducks, Teal and Greenheads from the neighboring Alligator River. This 45 acre tract is full of wildlife and it also has a solid stand of future investment pines that are roughly 8 years old. The pines are dense and act as a natural bedding area and ridge for the bear and deer on the property. If you refer to the images, you will see that the entrance path is full of fresh scrapes and rubs. The biggest issue that will need attention is that the logging company abused the access road when they cleared the timber years ago. You will need some knee high boots to walk through the initial 200 yards but it quickly converts to higher ground and a really nice access path leading to the back of the property, once you make it through the beginning section. The best solution to repairing the access road will be to have the ditches dug on each side of the path and have the dirt flipped back onto the current path. Once this path is cleaned up, you will be able to take a 800 yard shot to the very back corner of the property Tyrrell County ranked number three in the state in total bear harvests based on the 2017 Annual Bear Harvest Report. The top three counties for harvesting bear based on this report are Hyde, Beaufort and Tyrrell, all within 60 miles of each other. Tyrrell County also rests along the Atlantic Flyway which is a migratory waterfowl passage from the arctic tundra of Baffin Island, Canada, all the way down to the Caribbean. The reason this property is ideal for migratory birds is because the Great Shoal rests about two miles from the property, boasting five hundred acres of ankle to waist deep water that is covered in natural grasses. At any point during the winter months you can take a short boat ride out to see thousands of ducks and swan gorging on this shoal.
